NOPD Identifies Wanted Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Leslea Grinstead (pictured, black female, DOB: 07-01-1998) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on May 16, 2022, in the 2000 block of Poland Avenue.

According to investigators, Fifth District officers responded just before 10:00 a.m. on May 16 to a call of a shooting at the location. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his body. Emergency Medical Technicians arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

On May 16, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 31-year-old Maurice Motton.

Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed Grinstead as a person of interest in this investigation. Further investigation led detectives to positively identified Grinstead as the perpetrator in this incident. On June 1, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Grinstead on one count of second-degree murder.

Anyone who has additional information regarding this incident or on Leslea Grinstead’s whereabouts is urged to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Nickolas Davis at 504-658-5300 or to call anonymously to Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111.
