NOPD Quickly Locates, Arrests Suspect in Fifth District Homicide

The NOPD arrested Darryl Thomas (pictured, black male, DOB: 01-14-1962) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred overnight (June 16, 2021) in the 1600 block of Elysian Fields Avenue.

At about 10:27 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of a aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim lying the neutral ground and suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was declared deceased at the scene, and NOPD’s Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation.

Through their investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives were able to develop and positively identify Thomas as the perpetrator in this incident and to obtain an arrest warrant. Thomas was located, arrested and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder.
