NOPD Announces Significant Violent Crime Arrests, Clearances Between March 30-June 6

– Listed below are significant arrests or clearances through warrants or exception obtained between March 30 and June 6, 2021 in investigations by the NOPD:

 

Homicide

 

  • On June 4, the NOPD arrested David H. Wisham Sr. (pictured, black male, DOB: 11-28-1980) and Kenneth W. Jones Jr. (pictured, black male, DOB: 12-27-1978) in the investigation of a double homicide that occurred on December 16, 2013 in the 12100 block of North I-10 Service Road. Both suspects were arrested in East Baton Rouge Parish and transferred to Orleans Parish on two counts each of second-degree murder.

 

Shootings

  • On June 4, NOPD Seventh District detectives arrested Craig King (pictured, black male, DOB: 04-13-2000) for aggravated battery by shooting. The incident occurred at Almonaster Avenue and Jourdan Road on May 31.

 

  • On June 1, NOPD Third District detectives arrested Dejaun Gradley (pictured, black male, DOB: 01-04-1996) for three counts of attempted second-degree murder. The incident occurred in the 3600 block of Frenchmen Street on June 1. 

 

  • On May 31, NOPD Third District detectives and the Public Integrity Bureau arrested Wilton Anderson (pictured, black male, DOB: 06-18-1990) for attempted second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer and one count of resisting a police officer with force. The incident occurred in the 2000 block of Mirabeau Avenue on May 31.

 

  • On May 30, NOPD First District detectives arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male (not pictured) for aggravated battery by shooting and possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The incident occurred in the 600 block of North Rocheblave Street on May 29.
     

Armed Robbery

  • On June 6, NOPD Seventh District officers arrested a 15-year-old juvenile male (not pictured) for armed robbery in connection with an incident in the 5800 block of Read Boulevard. With this arrest, Seventh District detectives through investigation determined the juvenile to be responsible for a 10-hour crime spree stretching from June 5-6. Incidents connected to the juvenile include:
    • An armed robbery in the 4500 block of Michoud Boulevard
    • A hit-and-run vehicle crash at the intersection of South Claiborne and Jackson avenues.
    • A simple kidnapping of two 21-year-old females in the 2100 block of South Claiborne Avenue. The suspect demanded the victims drive him to a location in the Seventh District. Once they arrived, the juvenile reportedly robbed the victims of their cash and fled.
    • An armed carjacking and aggravated battery by striking the victim with a gun in the head prior to taking his vehicle and fleeing the scene.
    • An attempted armed carjacking in the 5800 block of Read Boulevard, where the juvenile was stopped by an armed security guard on the premises. The juvenile fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by Seventh District officers without incident.

The suspect was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for three counts of armed robbery, two counts of simple kidnapping, and one count each of aggravated battery and armed carjacking.

  • On June 4, NOPD Seventh District officers arrested Irving Lee (pictured, black male, DOB: 07-03-1997) for armed robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred in the 7000 block of Lawrence Road on June 4.

 

  • On June 3, NOPD Third District officers arrested Mervin Bailey (pictured, black male, DOB: 08-14-2002) for armed robbery and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Burbank Street on June 3.

 

  • On May 28, NOPD Seventh District detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Bryan Jones Jr. (pictured, black male, DOB: 07-20-1993) for armed robbery and felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred in the 13100 block of Saint Stephens Drive on May 28.

 

Other significant arrests

  • On June 6, NOPD First District officers received a report of gunfire in the 1500 block of Canal Street. The reporting person, an officer working a security detail, reported observing two subjects fleeing from a parking lot in the 1500 block of Canal Street. First & Eight district officers converged to the area and located two subjects matching the description broadcast of the suspects. After a brief pursuit into the 500 block of North Claiborne Avenue. The officers reportedly observed one subject throw a firearm into a cemetery and another throw a firearm into an RV park. Both subjects, found to be juvenile males, were subsequently apprehended in the 500 block of North Claiborne Avenue. With the assistance of the New Orleans Police Fire Department, searches of the cemetery and the RV resort revealed two firearms. Officers also recovered a backpack containing three additional firearms, magazines and ammunition. Both subjects were booked into the juvenile justice center for one count each of juvenile in possession of a handgun, pending further investigation. One of the arrested juveniles in this incident has been arrested several times, with more than 60 charges for auto burglary and possession of stolen property. The suspect was last arrested on May 24, 2021 and was released approximately two days prior to the above incident.

 

  • On May 30, Third District officers arrested Dairius Edwards (pictured, black male, DOB: 04-01-1988) and Brandi Haines (pictured, black female, DOB: 03-06-1996) for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. The two suspects were found to be in possession of approximately 15 pounds of marijuana at a residence in the 4700 block of Paris Avenue during a narcotics investigation.
