UPDATE: NOPD Arrests Suspect in Seventh District Reckless Operation, Drag Racing

UPDATE: On Thursday, June 20, 2019, Layth Joudeh (DOB: 10-01-1991) turned himself in at the NOPD Seventh District police station, accompanied by his attorney. Joudeh was arrested without incident and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for reckless operation of a vehicle and drag racing on a public street.

The NOPD wishes to remind citizens that all exhibitions of speed not limited to drag racing or burnouts are against the law, as is spectating at such events. If caught engaging in a speed exhibition, spectating or reckless operation of a vehicle, those involved will face criminal charges.

NOPD Seventh District officers are currently investigating all available evidence in an effort to identify others possibly involved in speed exhibition incidents in the Seventh District.

ORIGINAL REL:EASE: The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Layth Joudeh (DOB: 10-01-1991) in connection with a reckless operation of a vehicle incident in the 3700 block of Downman Road on June 16, 2019.

NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a disturbance in reference to illegal drag racing at the location. Joudeh was positively identified as the subject occupying an orange Pontiac sedan with no license plate who was inciting the gathered crowd by performing burnouts at the location, after being warned by the responding officers to disperse.

A warrant was issued for Joudeh’s arrest in this incident. Another subject was issued a summons for spectating and enticing the burnouts by use of a megaphone.

All exhibitions of speed not limited to drag racing but burnouts are against the law, as is spectating at such events. If caught engaging in a speed exhibition, spectating or reckless operation of a vehicle, those involved will face criminal charges. NOPD Seventh District officers are currently investigating additional evidence and are working to identify additional subjects in this incident.
