NOPD Seeking Those Responsible in Simple Robbery on Poydras Street

The NOPD is seeking to locate and identify a subject believed to be connected with a simple robbery that occurred on June 24, 2017 in the 1900 block of Poydras Street.

The victim told police that at about 4:35 a.m., he was standing at the intersection of Poydras and South Roman streets attempting to contact a ride when an unknown black male approached the victim and told him that his ride had arrived. The victim followed the subject to an unknown alleyway near the intersection and observed a vehicle, but could not remember the color, make or model. The victim said the subject then grabbed him from behind and pushed him to the ground, pressing the victim’s head to the ground and taking the victim’s cell phone and money before entering the vehicle and fleeing the scene. The victim said he then walked back to the intersection and asked a bystander to call police.

The unknown black male who allegedly assaulted the victim was described as standing about 6’0” and weighing about 200 pounds with a dark complexion and short buzz-cut hairstyle. He was also described as wearing a red shirt and dark pants.

About three hours after the incident, surveillance footage captured at about at about 7:30 a.m. shows an unknown black male allegedly using a debit card reported stolen in the simple robbery incident to make fraudulent purchases. The subject left the store driving a silver or tan Chevrolet/GMC SUV bearing Texas license plates. The subject is described as a black male wearing a black cap, black shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and a silver watch.
