NOPD Arrests Suspect on Drug, Gun Possession Charges in Second District

On Tuesday, June 6, the NOPD arrested Desean Rice (10-11-1996) on drug and gun possession charges at the intersection of Belfast and Eagle streets.

At about 4:11 p.m., Second District officers conducted a suspicious person stop at the intersection. Officers observed a black male with a red baseball cap, later identified as Rice, walking at a brisk pace and clutching his waistband in a matter suggestive of possessing a firearm. Upon observing the officers, Rice quickly attempted to enter a residence in the 8800 block of Belfast Street, but was stopped by officers. A struggle ensued, whereupon a sergeant responded to assist. Rice continued to resist, but was eventually subdued and taken into custody. A search of Rice’s person led officers to discover a handgun is Rice's right pants leg and a bag of marijuana.

Rice, who was also found to be wanted by Orleans Parish Municipal Court, was placed under arrest and booked into Central Lockup on charges of illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and flight from an officer.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Second District detectives at 504-658-6020.
