NOPD Chief Michael Harrison announced today (June 7, 2017) that officers have arrested numerous suspects, the majority of which are juveniles, in connection with multiple armed robbery and armed carjacking incidents in the First and Second Districts.
The NOPD has arrested multiple individuals in connection with numerous armed robberies that occurred in the First and Second districts.
In the Second District, detectives are investigating a series of incidents that occurred between June 1-4 that includes the following:
- An armed carjacking that occurred on June 1, at about 10:36 p.m. in the 4200 block of Walmsley Avenue.
- An armed robbery with a gun that occurred on June 2 at about 11:40 pm in the 1700 block of Dante Street.
- An armed robbery with a gun that occurred on June 3, 2017 at about 10:57 p.m. at the intersection of South Johnson and Upperline streets.
- An attempted armed robbery with a gun that occurred on June 3 at about 1:10 a.m. in the 1500 block of Broadway Street.
- An armed robbery with a gun that occurred on June 4 at about 12:20 a.m. in the 4300 block of State Street Drive.
In these incidents, the suspects reportedly approached the victims from a vehicle and robbed the victims of cell phones, electronics and their vehicles.
During the course of the investigations, detectives were able to identify at 15-year old male and a 14-year-old male, as well as adults Rannell Fields (DOB: 02-25-2000) and Roland Fields (12-21-1993) as suspects in the incidents that occurred in the Second District. Upon execution of search warrants in relation to the Second District robberies, officers discovered three handguns and one BB gun modeled to realistically look like a handgun.
Rannell Fields, Roland Fields and the two juvenile males have been located and arrested. The 15-year-old juvenile is charged with four counts of armed robbery, while the 14-year-old juvenile is charged with five counts of armed robbery. Ronnell Fields is charged with five counts of armed robbery, while Roland Fields is charged with one count of possession of stolen property and was also booked on an outstanding warrant.
Second District detectives are actively working with the NOPD’s Tactical Intelligence Gathering and Enforcement Response group, or TIGER, to identify additional individuals believed to also be responsible for these incidents, as well as other incidents throughout the city. In the First District, officers have arrested four juveniles in connection with three armed robberies that occurred last week. These include:
- An armed carjacking that occurred on May 31 at about 7:40 p.m. in the 2600 block of Onzaga Street.
- An armed carjacking that occurred on June 2 at about 12:05 a.m. in the 3000 block of Iberville Street.
- An armed robbery with a gun that occurred on June at the intersection of Grand Route St. John and Mystery streets.
Arrested and booked in these incidents were the following:
- A 16-year-old juvenile male charged with one count of carjacking in the incident on Onzaga Street.
- A 16-year-old juvenile male charged with one count each of simple battery and armed robbery in the incident at Grand Route St. John and Mystery streets.
- A 14-year-old juvenile male charged with one count each of simple battery and armed robbery in the incident at Grand Route St. John and Mystery streets.
- A 16-year-old juvenile male charged with one count of carjacking in the incident on Onzaga Street, one count of carjacking in the incident on Iberville Street and one count of armed robbery in the incident at Grand Route St. John and Mystery streets.
