The NOPD is searching for a male subject after he was seen on surveillance video preparing to break into a home in the 1200 block of Marais Street.

The incident happened June 27, 2017. At about 9:25 a.m., the victims left their residence locked and secured before heading to work. The next day, the victims returned home at around 12:51 a.m. where they discovered the interior of their home ransacked. As they proceeded to the rear of the house, they discovered the side kitchen window forcefully open.

Surveillance video of the incident can be seen here.

An unknown black male was seen on surveillance video jumping over the rear fence of the victims’ home. He then attempted to gain entry through the rear door but was unable to do so. The suspect was then seen walking on the side of the house, away from the view of cameras, where he entered the home through the kitchen window.

He was seen wearing a white tank top, blue jean shorts and blue tennis shoes.

SafeCam NOLA is a NOPD initiative that enlists the help of community members in the fight against crime. The SafeCam online registration service was developed by the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation.

Citizen-provided security camera footage is increasingly becoming an invaluable asset to NOPD, helping establish leads and identify perpetrators. By voluntarily registering your contact information with NOPD through SafeCam NOLA, detectives will know how to reach you if a crime occurs in the vicinity of your camera. Registering your information does not provide NOPD with direct access to your camera and NOPD will only contact you if they believe your camera could contain evidence relevant to a criminal investigation. Evidence provided by your camera could mean the difference between bringing a perpetrator to justice versus leaving a crime unsolved.
