The NOPD is investigating a hit-and-run traffic fatality that occurred during the early morning hours today (July 3, 2026) in the 5400 block of Chef Menteur Highway.
At about 3:54 a.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a subject in the roadway at the listed location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unknown adult male subject lying in the westbound lanes of the Danziger Bridge. The subject was declared deceased on scene.
Through further investigation, NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit investigators determined that the victim had been struck by a vehicle that did not remain on scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
Investigation into the incident is active and ongoing. No further information is currently available.
