NOPD Arrests Suspect in Aggravated Battery by Cutting Incident

The NOPD today (July 8, 2026) arrested Renard Santiago (Hispanic male, DOB: 05-17-1986) in connection with an aggravated battery by cutting incident that occurred on June 6, 2026, at the intersection of Hayne Boulevard and Symmes Avenue.

On June 6, Santiago was detained on scene after Seventh District officers responded to an initial call of a domestic disturbance at the location. Upon further investigation, the signal was changed to an aggravated battery by cutting. In this incident, Santiago allegedly cut the victim to the face with a box cutter. Santiago was detained on scene and transported to a local hospital to be examined prior to booking for injuries sustained in the incident. However, Santiago fled the hospital and escaped custody.

Today, NOPD Seventh District and Special Operations Division officers located Santiago at a residence in the 9600 block of Hayne Boulevard. Santiago was arrested without incident. He will be booked into the Orleans Justice Center on charges of aggravated battery, violation of protective orders, simple criminal damage to property, theft and simple escape.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070.
