The NOPD has arrested a suspect in the investigation of a homicide that occurred during the early hours today (July 12, 2024) in the 2200 block of New Orleans Street.
At about 12:17 a.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim on scene. The victim was subsequently declared deceased on scene. A subject was detained for questioning in this investigation.
As investigation progressed, NOPD Homicide Section detectives determined the subject detained for questioning – identified as Erling Antunez (Hispanic male, DOB: 10-05-2001) – to be the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Antunez on one count of second-degree murder and one count of illegal possession of a stolen firearm. Antunez was subsequently booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
