The New Orleans Police Department’s Homicide Section is investigating a homicide that took the life of a 15-year-old male this evening (July 29, 2024).
According to investigators, Second District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 2100 block of Sonia Street (earlier reported as Lasalle Street). Upon their arrival, officers located two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to their bodies. Emergency Medical Technicians transported the 15-year-old boy and a 25-year old man to the hospital for treatment.
The 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. The 25-year-old is listed in stable condition.
Detectives are in the process of gathering information to identify the person(s) responsible and a motive. They are also trying to determine if the 25-year-old man was the intended target.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and identify the victim.
