NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

On July 18, 2022, the NOPD arrested Derrick Anderson (black male, DOB: 05-17-2004) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on June 28, 2022, in the 1700 block of Abundance Street.

At about 7:27 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a reported aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male subject who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was declared deceased on scene, at which time the incident was reclassified as a homicide.

On June 30, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office publicly identified the victim as 17-year-old Deangelo Molizone and determined cause of death to be from injuries via gunshot wounds.

Through further investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Anderson as the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Anderson on July 18 on one count of second-degree murder.

Detectives learned that Anderson is currently incarcerated in the Orleans Parish Justice Center on unrelated charges. He was re-booked on the additional homicide charge.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Det. Matthew Riffle at 504-658-5300.
