NOPD Investigating Homicide in Third District

The NOPD is investigating a homicie today (July 29, 2021) at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Sage Street that left one person dead.

At about 9:57 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim having sustained a gunshot wound(s) to the chest. The victim was transported via private conveyance to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

A person of interest has been detained at the scene for questioning.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information regarding this incident, including motive. No additional details are available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
