NOPD Investigating Homicide in Eighth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred during the overnight hours today (July 27, 2021) at the intersection of Canal and Carondelet streets that left one person deceased.

At about 1:23 a.m., NOPD Eighth District officers responded to an initial call of an aggravated battery by cutting at the location. Upon arrival and through investigation, they learned that the victim – an adult male - and the perpetrator – an unknown black male – were reportedly involved in a physical altercation. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and the suspect fled. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and release an official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
