NOPD Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD has arrested Damon Rideau (pictured, black male, DOB: 07-11-1990) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred earlier today (July 29, 2021) at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Sage Street.

At about 9:57 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim having sustained a gunshot wound(s) to the chest. The victim was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

Rideau was detained at the scene of the incident. Through investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives determined him to be the perpetrator in this incident. Rideau was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder.

Detectives also determined that Rideau and the victim were known to each other and that both were employees of the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Detective Christian Recile at 504-658-5300.
