NOPD Investigates Homicide, Shooting on Jackson Avenue

The NOPD is investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of one adult male and injured another Monday (July 20) afternoon in the Sixth District.

At around 2:05 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 2800 block of Jackson Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two males inside of a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

During the investigation, officers learned that the occupants of a black sedan pulled up on side of the victims’ vehicle and began firing shots from the passenger side, killing the driver and injuring the passenger. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene, and the passenger was transported to an area hospital by EMS.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
