NOPD Searches for Vehicle Involved in First District Fatal Hit and Run

The NOPD is searching for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run that occurred in the First District.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2019 around 10:55 p.m. at the intersection of North Claiborne and Esplanade avenues.

First District officers responded to the call reporting a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive suffering from trauma to the head and chest.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The suspect vehicle initially stopped and was photographed by a bystander. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.

The vehicle appears to be a full size SUV, possibly a GMC or Chevrolet. It is bluish grey in color.

The NOPD Fatality Unit is asking for the public’s help in providing information on this incident on any person who may own such a vehicle with new damage to the front of the vehicle.
