Murder Charge Added Against Suspect in Seventh District Homicide

On July 18, 2019, the NOPD arrested Donald Patton Jr. (DOB: 07-21-1987) in the investigation of the homicide of Lemant Stewart on July 15, 2019 in the 6900 block of Martin Drive.

At 4:37 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two surviving victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators also learned that a fourth individual in this incident, later identified as Patton, had been transported via private conveyance to an area hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.

Through investigation, Patton was determined as the perpetrator against two of the surviving victims and, upon release from the hospital, was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for attempted second degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm.

On July 17, 2019, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victim in this incident as Stewart.

During the course of investigation, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives additionally positively identified Patton as the perpetrator of the homicide in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained and Patton was re-booked for second degree murder. A booking photo was not available.
