NOPD Arrests Suspect in Aggravated Battery by Shooting on Garden Oaks Drive

The NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) and U.S. Marshals arrested Jared Helton (DOB: 06/21/98) today for his involvement in an aggravated battery by shooting incident that injured an 8- year-old male juvenile.

The incident happened on July 22, 2018. At around 12:18 a.m., Fourth District officers responded to an aggravated battery by shooting incident that occurred in the 3600 block of Garden Oaks Drive.  Once on scene, officers discovered an 8-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. 

Through the course of the investigation, Helton was developed as the perpetrator in the incident.

Helton was booked with aggravated battery by shooting and obstruction of justice.
