UPDATE: Arrest Made in Homicide on Fourth Street

UPDATE: The signal for this incident has been changed from a homicide by shooting to a homicide.

In addition, an arrest has been made in connection with this incident. Charles Jones (DOB: 10-05-1956) was arrested and will be booked into Central Lockup for second-degree murder.

Following initial reports and upon further investigation into the incident by detectives, it was determined that the deceased victim did not suffer a gunshot wound in this incident, The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim’s identity, pending autopsy results.

However, the second victim listed in this incident did suffer a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound to the head and was transported via EMS for treatment.

As investigation continued, detectives identified the gunshot victim – later identified Jones – as the perpetrator in the homicide of the decedent.

Investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

 

ORIGINAL RELEASE: The NOPD is investigating a double shooting that occurred on July 25, 2017 in the 800 block of Fourth Street and claimed the life of one of the victims.

At about 11:55 p.m., Sixth District officers responded to a call of an aggravated battery by shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male lying inside of a residence and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second male victim was also found at the scene suffering from an unspecified gunshot wound and was transported via EMS to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the deceased victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family
