NOPD Arrests Seven for Firearms, Narcotics

The NOPD made two significant gun and narcotics arrests this weekend.

Shortly before midnight on July 2, 2017, Second District officers Russell Gary and Jason Jorgenson conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Hickory Street and Eagle Street. The subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, Danny Hunter (DOB: 11-15-1986) and the three passengers were in possession of three bags of crack cocaine, a bag of methamphetamine, a Para Arms 1911 .45 semi-automatic handgun and a Panther Arms .308 assault rifle. The passengers were identified as Gregory Darensbourg (DOB: 7-26-1985), Isiah Johnson (DOB: 1-21-1976) and Daniel Valcour (DOB: 6-30-1988).

All four of the vehicle’s occupants were charged with possession of a Schedule II CDS (crack cocaine) and illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of a CDS. In addition, the driver and one of the passengers were issued summonses for having an alcoholic beverage in motor vehicle.

On July 2, 2017, at approximately 12:12 a.m. officers from the First District's General Assignment Unit were patrolling in the 1200 to 1300 blocks of St. Louis Street when they spotted a black male, later identified as Arthur Sylvester, who appeared to be carrying a concealed firearm in his waistband. Officers followed Sylvester and his two companions to the 400 block of North Rampart Street where they stopped the three men. A pat-down search revealed that all three were in possession of Glock firearms including one that had been reported stolen in April 2017. Sylvester was also found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

NOPD arrested Arthur Sylvester (DOB: 5-26-1998), Shakur Bowman (DOB: 6-7-1997) and Johavan Mack (DOB: 6-17-1991) for possession of firearms and narcotics.
