NOPD Arrests Suspect in Aggravated Assault on Independence Street

The NOPD arrested Marchand Thomas (DOB: 03-08-1979) in connection with an aggravated assault that occurred in the 2300 block of Independence Street on January 30, 2017.

At about 6:35 p.m., the victims arrived at Thomas’ residence to pick up money. Once in front of the location, the victims stated, they observed Thomas walk from the side of his residence towards their vehicle with a firearm in his hand. The victims stated that in fear of their lives as Thomas approached them, they elected to drive away from the location. The victims stated as soon as they drove away from the location, they heard two gunshots. The victims were not injured in this incident and immediately notified the police.  Thomas was positively identified as the perpetrator in this incident and booked into Central Lockup on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and two counts of illegal discharge of a firearm.
