Suspect Arrested by NOPD in Seventh District Shooting Investigation

The NOPD has arrested Robert Torregano (black male, DOB: 09-01-2000) in its investigation of a shooting that occurred on January 1, 2026, in the 7500 block of Lawrence Road and left two people injured, including a 4-year-old child.

At about 6:18 p.m. on January 1, NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located the 4-year-old male victim on scene and found he has sustained an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital.

In addition, the second victim in this incident – an adult male – had arrived via private conveyance to a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Through investigation, NOPD Seventh District officers positively identified Torregano as the perpetrator in this incident and obtained an arrest warrant on two counts of attempted second-degree murder, six counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, one count of aggravated criminal damage to property and one count of illegal discharge of a firearm.

On January 3, Torregano surrendered to police and was arrested without incident. He was booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

As of this writing, both victims remain hospitalized. The 4-year-old victim remains in critical condition while the adult male victim is in stable condition.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Anyone with additional information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Seventh District detectives at 504-658-6070.
