NOPD Investigating Homicide in Seventh District

New Orleans- The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred (today) January 12, 2026 at the intersection of Brevard Avenue and Dinkins Street in the Seventh District.

At approximately 12:34 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a report of a shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males — a 24-year-old and a 43-year-old — both suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment, where the 24-year-old victim was pronounced deceased.

The 43-year-old victim remains in critical condition.

Investigators are currently gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident and to determine a motive.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased victim and determine the official cause of death upon completion of an autopsy and notification of next of kin.
