The NOPD’s Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership (GRIP) Unit arrested multiple suspects and confiscated multiple firearms and illegal drugs during an operation on January 1, 2025, in the Seventh District.

On January 1, GRIP Unit officers were on proactive patrol in the Seventh District when they heard multiple gunshots. The officers then relocated to the 4400 block of Cessna Court to investigate. Upon arrival, officers encountered several male subjects found to be armed with firearms. The suspects, found near a white SUV, then fled the scene on foot. Three of the suspects were detained by officers and found to be in possession of two firearms and ammunition that matched multiple spent casings found at the scene. One of the subjects was also found to be in possession of Tapentadol pills.

As the officers conducted their investigation, officers approached the white SUV and observed in plain view multiple firearms in the vehicle’s front passenger seat. Upon obtaining and executing a search warrant for the vehicle, a total of 20 firearms (pictured) were found throughout the vehicle and confiscated.

While none of the firearms had been reported stolen at the time of confiscation, investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The three suspects were arrested and subsequently booked into the Orleans Justice Center. The suspects and respective charges include:

• Thaddeus Terry, black male, DOB: 10-03-2002, charged with illegal use of a firearm.
• A 17-year-old juvenile black male, charged with illegal use of weapons, illegal carrying of firearms, negligent carrying of a concealed handgun and for flight from an officer.
• Jequan Burton, black male, DOB: 10-01-2007, charged with illegal possession of a Schedule II CDS (Tapentadol) and for flight from an officer.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
