NOPD Makes Quick Arrest of Suspects in First District Armed Carjacking

On January 21, 2023, Seventh District officers arrested Jamal Tuggles (black male, DOB: 06-20-2003) and two juveniles in connection with an armed carjacking that happened earlier in the day in the First District.

AT about 2:30 a.m., an armed carjacking was reported in the 2600 block of Poydras Street.  Later that afternoon, officers in the Seventh District noticed the vehicle, a 2016 Ford Fusion, in the 8500 block of the North I-10 Service Road. 

When officers approached the vehicle, the suspects allegedly fled on foot but were caught after a brief foot chase.

Tuggles was arrested and charged with armed robbery, illegal carrying of weapon, possession of stolen things,  resisting/flight from an officer, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The two juveniles, ages 16 and 17 were charged with armed robbery, illegal possession of stolen things, resisting/flight from an officer, and one was charged with illegal carrying of a weapon by a juvenile.
