NOPD Makes Quick Arrest in Shooting in Seventh District

NOPD officers arrested a man suspected in a shooting just minutes after the incident in the Seventh District on January 5, 2023.

Just before 9 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 7700 block of Chef Menteur Highway.  Upon arrival they located a 44-year old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was transported to a local hospital by EMS.

Through investigation, Seventh District officers learned the suspect may have been at nearby hotel.  They quickly located and arrested William Collins, black male DOB:1-27-1969.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing. No additional details are currently available.
