The NOPD has arrested an 18-year-old male suspect in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on April 14, 2022, in the 3700 block of Mansfield Avenue.

At about 9:45 p.m. on April 14, NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 3700 block of Mansfield Avenue. On April 18, 2022, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Jestin Kinard and determined the cause of death to be by gunshot wound.

As investigation into the incident progressed, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified the suspect as the perpetrator in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained on one count of second-degree murder. The suspect was found to be in police custody in Pearl River County, Miss., and was extradited back to Orleans Parish on Januay 11, 2023, to face the murder charge.

As the arrested suspect was a juvenile at the time the offense was committed, his name will not be released.
