NOPD Arrests Armed Suspect in Stolen Vehicle

The NOPD has arrested Alquan Johnson (black male, DOB: 06-25-1998) after allegedly discovering him in a stolen vehicle armed with a firearm.

On January 13, 2023, Third District officers noticed a black Hyundai Sonata with no license plate and self-applied tinted windows at the intersection of Senate Street and Paris Avenue.  Upon further inspection, they discovered a subject asleep in the vehicle with a firearm visible on the console.

Through investigation, officers determined the vehicle was stolen on January 3, 2023, from the 3000 block of Burgundy.  They proceeded to arrest the subject inside the stolen car who allegedly fought the officers and managed to flee before being apprehended a short distance away.

Upon apprehension, officers identified Johnson as the perpetrator.

He has been charged with resisting an officer, simple escape, being a felon in possession of a firearm and illegal possession of a stolen vehicle.

Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to call Third District detectives at (504) 658-6030 or Crimestoppers anonymously at (504) 822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-7867.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
