NOPD Investigating Homicide in Second District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred on the evening of January 9, 2024, near the intersection of Oleander and Short Streets in the Second District.

At about 6:58 p.m., NOPD officers responded to a call of a person down in the street. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, an unidentified adult male, and found he had sustained at least one gunshot wound. EMS arrived on scene and declared the victim deceased.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.

Homicide Detective Rob Long is the lead in the ongoing investigation.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
