NOPD Investigating Shooting that Kills Two People and Injures One

NEW ORLEANS - The NOPD is investigating a double homicide that occurred today (January 8, 2022) at the intersection of Curran Road and Benson Street.

At around 5:56 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of aggravated battery shooting at the location.  Upon arrival officers found two male victims suffering with a gunshot wound(s).  First, an 18-year-old male, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Second, a 23-year-old male, who was transported by NOEMS to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.  Shortly after, detectives learned of a third male victim who arrived at the hospital by private conveyance and is currently undergoing treatment.  The third victim’s identity is unknown at this time. 

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. 

No additional details are available at this time.  The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
