NOPD Investigating a Shooting that Leaves One Dead and One Critically Injured

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred today (January 7, 2022) in the 2000 block of North Broad Avenue. 

At around 8:25 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of aggravated battery by shooting at the location.  Upon arrival, officers found one unknown male victim suffering with a gunshot wound(s) near the intersection of Duels Street and North Broad Avenue.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Soon after, officers were alerted to another victim, a 25-year-old male, suffering with multiple gunshot wounds near the intersection of Bruxelles Street and North Broad Avenue.  He was transported to the hospital by NOEMS and is in critical condition.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

No additional details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
