NOPD Investigating a Deadly Shooting in the Sixth District

NEW ORLEANS - The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (January 7, 2022) in the 2000 block of South Claiborne Avenue. 

At around 7:41 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location.  Upon arrival officers discovered a 23-year-old male suffering with a gunshot wound(s).  He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

Around the same time, two other gunshot victims involved in this incident arrived at the hospital by private conveyance.  One victim, a 32-year-old male, is in critical condition.  Another, a 36-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle.  

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

No additional details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
