NOPD Arrests Juvenile Suspect for Illegal Firearms Possession in Sixth District

The NOPD has arrested a 16-year-old juvenile black male (not pictured) for illegal possession of a concealed firearm in an incident on January 23, 2022 in the Sixth District.

On January 23, NOPD Sixth District officers were providing supplemental coverage during a second line parade when citizens in the area of the parade advised officers of a group of black male juveniles in the area seen to be armed with firearms. Officers responded and located a known juvenile matching the provided description to be near the intersection of Clara and Sixth streets, a short distance from the ongoing parade.  The subject fled, discarding a semiautomatic pistol with an extended magazine during flight. The subject was safely apprehended in the 2900 block of Louisiana Avenue without further incident and transported to the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center, where he was charged with one count of illegal carrying of a firearm and one count of illegal possession of a firearm by juvenile.

Anyone with additional information on this incident or is asked to contact the NOPD Sixth District at 504-658-6060.
