NOPD Investigating Homicide in Sixth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred today (January 1, 2020) the intersection of Louisiana and South Claiborne avenues that claimed the life of one victim.

At about 5:37 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of a traffic crash at the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Toledano streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered a pickup truck having crashed into a utility pole and a male victim inside of the truck. The victim was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. At that time, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed control of the investigation.

Additionally, a female victim was reportedly struck by a vehicle at the scene. No additional details are available at this time as to any possible injuries or possible involvement in this incident.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive. No further information is available at this time.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
