NOPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle Crash in Third District

The NOPD is investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred this morning (January 6, 2020) in the 600 block of City Park Avenue which claimed the life of one person and injured two others.

Just before 4:00 a.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash with injury at the location. Through investigation, it was learned that the vehicle was being pursued out of Jefferson Parish on City Park Avenue by Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputies, after being identified as a reported stolen vehicle. The pursuit reportedly continued into Orleans Parish on City Park Avenue when, for reasons yet to be determined, the suspect vehicle crossed the median and struck a tree.

Two occupants of the vehicle were transported via EMS to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. The third occupant was found inside of the vehicle and declared dead at the scene.

Investigation into this incident is active and ongoing. No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the deceased victim’s name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
