NOPD Believes Recent Kidnapping Attempts are Unrelated

The NOPD is actively investigating two reported kidnapping attempts that occurred in different parts of the city late last week and over the weekend.

Investigators are confident that these incidents, while somewhat close in timeframe, are not related to each other.

The first incident, in the Third District last Thursday, occurred around 8:19 p.m. in the 5500 block of Baccich Street. The victim  was approached by two subjects, described as unknown black males, who tried to force her into a vehicle.

The victim’s husband heard the scream and came out of the house. At that point, the victim and her husband heard a gunshot. The victim was released and both subjects fled the scene.

The second incident occurred in the Seventh District on January 4, 2020 near the intersection of Sail and Wales streets.

Around 9:32 p.m., a subject described as an unknown black male with a tattoo on his left arm, approached the victim and attempted to force her into a black van. The victim was able to free herself and Tased the subject, who then fled the scene.

Residents should take regular precautions such as locking the doors and windows of their homes and securing their vehicles. They should also be aware of their surroundings and call 911 if they feel threatened or see something suspicious.

Anyone with information on either of these incidents is asked to call the Third District at 504-658-6030 or the Seventh District at 504-658-6070 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 504-822-1111 and toll-free at 1-877-903-7867.
