NOPD Officer Shot While Responding to 911 Call

NOPD officers responded to a report of an attempted suicide in the 2300 block of Orleans Avenue that left one officer injured and the suspect dead.

On January 4, 2019, just after 10 p.m., NOPD officers arrived at the location then the perpetrator began firing shots at the officers.

During the exchange of gunfire, one of the officers was struck twice in the chest area. The bullets were stopped by the officer’s protective vest, causing non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect was shot multiple times. Both were transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The subject later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

NOPD’s Public Integrity Bureau (PIB) is investigating this incident. There are no further details available at this time.
