NOPD Arrests Suspect in Sixth District Auto Burglaries

The NOPD has arrested John Crawford (DOB: 09-13-1983) in connection with two auto burglary incidents that occurred on December 27, 2018 in the Sixth District.

At about 4:00 p.m., NOPD Sixth District officers responded to a call of a suspicious person in the area of the 1400 block of 7th Street. The reporting person stated that an unknown black male subject later identified as Crawford was peering through vehicle windows. Officers were able to locate the subject as he was reportedly looking through a vehicle, opened the door and stole a cell phone from inside the vehicle. Crawford was arrested at the scene and charged with simple burglary and possession of stolen items.

During a search of Crawford’s person, he was also reportedly found to be in possession of property reported stolen from the victim of a vehicle burglary incident reported an hour earlier at the intersection of General Taylor and Coliseum streets. Crawford was also arrested and charged with simple burglary and possession of stolen items in that incident.

Additionally, Crawford was arrested for violation of probation, as well as on an arrest warrant out of Jefferson Parish.

Anyone with additional information on these incidents is asked to contact NOPD Sixth District detectives at 504-658-6060.
