NOPD Arrests Suspect in December 2018 Fourth District Homicide

Today (January 18, 2019), members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad (VOWS) arrested Damyia McInnis (male, DOB: 11-22-1990) in connection with the homicide of Leon Bush and a connected shooting that occurred on December 25, 2018 at the intersection of General Meyer Avenue and Casimier Street.

NOPD Fourth District officers were notified at about 5:19 p.m. of an aggravated battery by shooting at the location. Units arrived on scene and discovered two victims – one adult male and one adult female – suffering from gunshot wounds. The male victim, later identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office as Bush, was found to be suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

As investigation into the incident progressed, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed McInnis as a suspect and were able to positively identify him as the perpetrator. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for McInnis on charges of second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

VOWS officers located McInnis at a residence in the Third District today and placed him under arrest. McInnis was transported to the Orleans Parish Justice Center accordingly.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact NOPD Homicide Detectives Maggie McCourt at 504-658-5300.
