NOPD Arrests Suspect for Criminal Damage to Historic Properties in Eighth District

The NOPD has arrested Lucas Baron (DOB: 08-31-1996) in connection with numerous instances of vandalism to historical buildings in the Eighth District.

On Friday, January 18, 2019, at approximately 12:44 AM, NOPD Eighth District officers were notified of a report of two subjects allegedly spray painting graffiti on buildings in the 1000 block of Decatur Street. The complainant/witness also placed an app call to the French Quarter Task Force. Officers Alfred Beechem and Ladarius Johnson of the French Quarter Task Force responded to the area and were flagged down by the witness, who pointed out one of the subjects as the individual was allegedly vandalizing a business in the 900 block of Decatur Street. This subject was later identified as Baron.

Once joined by NOPD Eighth District officers, the witness showed the officers five separate locations on Decatur Street where he personally observed the subjects spray-painting graffiti, and officers then located a sixth instance of graffiti vandalism linked to the aforementioned instances.

Baron was apprehended and placed under arrest for six counts of criminal damage to historic property.

The second unknown subject remains at large and is wanted on six counts of criminal damage to historic property.

Anyone with any information on these incidents or the location of the at-large suspect is asked to contact NOPD Eighth District detectives at 504-685-6080, or to call anonymously to Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
