The NOPD today (January 29, 2018) is investigating a fatal shooting that left two victims dead in the 8200 block of Palmetto Street.
At about 8:11 a.m., Second District officers responded to a wellness check call at an aparment complex in the block. Upon arrival, officers entered an apartment and discovered two unresponsive victims – one male and one female – on the floor and suffering from apparent fatal gunshot wounds. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
No further information is available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine official cause of death and release the victims' name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
