NOPD Arrests Suspect in Fourth District Armed Robberies

The NOPD has arrested Ken Avant (DOB: 10-25-1985) for allegedly robbing two businesses in the 3600 block of Macarthur Boulevard at gunpoint.

On December 15, 2017, at about 7:39 p.m., an armed robbery occurred at a nail salon, while an armed robbery also occurred on December 18, 2017 at about 7:00 p.m. at a Subway restaurant in the block.

During the course of the investigation into each incident, members of the NOPD Special Operation Division’s Tactical Intelligence Gathering and Enforcement Response (TIGER) Unit assisted Fourth District detectives in identifying Avant as the perpetrator in both of the incidents. A warrant was then obtained for Avant’s arrest.

On December 27, TIGER Unit officers and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies worked together to locate Avant and arrest him without incident. Avant was booked accordingly in Jefferson Parish and later transferred to the Orleans Parish Justice Center, where he was booked for two counts of armed robbery.

Any additional information on these incidents is asked to contact Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040. Citizens with information that can help solve crimes are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP.
