NOPD Arrests Felon Found in Possession of Firearm

NOPD Fourth District Task Force officers arrested Ronald Smith (DOB: 03-08-1982) after he was found to be in illegal possession of a firearm.

On Monday, (Jan. 22) at or about 8:10 p.m., officers were patrolling the 3300 block of Garden Oaks Drive and noticed the suspect standing near an abandoned apartment building. The suspect noticed the officers approaching him and attempted to walk away into a neighboring apartment. Officers later learned that the suspect was in possession of a black Beretta handgun, which had recently been stolen and recovered.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on charges of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon as well as illegal possession of a firearm.
