NOPD Arrests Man for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD arrested Ahmad Ahmad (pictured, DOB: 8/14/1966) for an aggravated assault with a firearm incident that occurred on February 16, 2020.

At around 12:04 a.m., Ahmad, an Uber driver, picked up the two people (Victim #1, Victim #2) at a downtown New Orleans bar and was supposed to take them to a location in Kenner.  However, Ahmad reportedly began driving them across the Mississippi River Bridge toward the Westbank.  When the victims informed him he was going in the wrong direction-an argument began.  At some point, Ahmad stopped the car and the police were called.  As they continued to argue, one of the victims ordered another Uber driver.  When the driver arrived, the victims entered the car.  However, Ahmad reportedly opened the passenger side door and removed the car’s key from the ignition.  As a result, Ahmad and one of the victims got into a physical altercation.  Then, Ahmad went back to his car, got a gun, and starting shooting at the victims. The victims ran and Ahmad drove away from the scene.  Later, he returned to the location and was subsequently arrested.

Ahmad was booked on aggravated assault with a firearm, theft, and illegal use of weapons charges.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Fourth District detectives at 504-658-6040.
