The NOPD has arrested 18-year-old Megill Harris, (DOB: 10/20/2007), in connection with a homicide in the Seventh District on Wednesday February 25, 2026.

At about 4:00 p.m. on the date, NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim in a park area. The victim, an unidentified 17-year-old male, was found to have sustained a gunshot wound(s). The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by EMS personnel.

Shortly after the shooting, officers detained an 18-year-old male. Through investigation, detectives positively identified Megill Harris as the perpetrator.  An arrest warrant was issued and Harris was arrested without incident and booked on charges of second degree murder.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
