NOPD VOWS Arrests Suspect in Homicide Investigation

Today (February 8, 2023), the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad arrested Gregory Woods (black male, DOB: 11-29-2002) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on February 7, 2023, in the 4300 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

At about 11:25 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a reported shooting at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male subject unresponsive near a bus stop who had sustained a gunshot wound(s). The victim was declared deceased on scene.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and official cause of death upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD Homicide Unit detectives developed and positively identified Woods as the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on one count of second-degree murder.

Today, NOPD VOWS and the U.S. Marshals located and arrested Woods at a residence in the Seventh District. Woods will be booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
