UPDATE: Suspects Arrested in Multiple Armed Carjackings

UPDATE: Suspects Arrested in Multiple Armed Carjackings

UPDATE: In addition to NOPD's arrest of Joshua Dean on February 15  in this investigation, Robert Garrett was arrested by the U.S. Marshals on February 19.

ORIGINAL: The NOPD has arrested Joshua Dean (pictured at left, male, DOB: 03-07-2002) and has obtained an arrest warrant for a second suspect in the ongoing investigation of multiple armed carjacking incidents in New Orleans, as well as an incident in neighboring Jefferson Parish.

Through investigation, NOPD Second District detectives determined that the following armed carjacking incidents were related:

  • Armed carjacking on February 9, 2021 in the 8100 block of Green Street.
  • Armed carjacking on February 9, 2021 at the intersection of Cohn and Pine streets
  • Armed carjacking on February 10, 2021 in the 5500 block of Vicksburg Street
  • Armed carjacking on February 13, 2021 in the 3600 block of State Street

Additionally, NOPD and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives determined that an armed carjacking on February 12, 2021 in Jefferson Parish was also connected to this series of incidents.

Through the investigation, detectives developed and positively identified Dean as the perpetrator of these incidents, along with developing and positively identifying Robert Garrett (pictured at right, DOB: 09-18-1997) as an accomplice to Dean in these incidents.

On February 15, 2021, NOPD Second District detectives located and arrested Dean, who was found at the time of arrest to be in possession of a handgun that was reported stolen. Dean was transported to CLU and booked on the following charges:

  • Armed robbery with a firearm (four counts)
  • Armed robbery (four counts)
  • Illegal carrying of a firearm
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Illegal possession of a stolen firearm
  • Resisting an officer
  • Warrant out of Jefferson Parish
