NOPD Makes Arrest, Seeks Additional Suspects in Third District Vehicle Burglary
The NOPD has arrested Desean Jefferson (DOB: 12-17-1999) and obtained an arrest warrant for Jovahn Lane (DOB: 11-21-2001) in the ongoing investigation into a vehicle burglary that occurred on January 22, 2019 in the 6400 block of Bellaire Drive.

On January 23, Jefferson and Lane were arrested by State Police after troopers had spotted a white Toyota RAV4 driving erratically near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and North Galvez Street. The troopers reportedly attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, at which time the vehicle allegedly fled and crashed into a parked vehicle at the intersection of Arts Street and South Claiborne Avenue. Jefferson, Lane and a third occupant identified as a known juvenile male were apprehended at the scene, with Lane being identified as the driver. A search of the vehicle revealed inside two handguns and narcotics. The three were arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center and Juvenile Justice Center, respectively.

Troopers informed NOPD Third District officers that the vehicle used in the pursuit matched the description of the vehicle used by the perpetrators of a vehicle burglary in the 6400 block of Bellaire Drive. Third District detectives arrived at the Orleans Parish Justice Center and interviewed Jefferson, who admitted involvement in the vehicle burglary incident with Lane and the known juvenile male. At that time, Jefferson was rebooked for simple burglary of a vehicle. Lane had reportedly posted bond and was released from jail prior to NOPD detectives’ questioning of Jefferson. The third subject was not arrested in connection with the pursuit.
